Learn more about “The Movement to Divest From Fossil Fuels”

 Listen
Listen to this: Early in 2014 Go Green Radio with Jill Buck hosted a discussion on divestment from fossil fuels.  In early 2014 7 foundations with assets of about $2 billion agreed to divest their portfolios of coal, oil and gas, and reinvest in the clean energy economy. This adds a major tailwind to the movement that is up and running on 400 college campuses nationwide. Major institutions in San Francisco, including the city itself, have agreed to divest completely. Some of these big names include The Compton Foundation, The Sierra Club Foundation, The San Francisco State University Foundation and more. Four of the leaders of this movement will join us on Go Green Radio to discuss the fossil fuel divestment movement, and its economic implications.

How about divesting all or part of your portfolio from fossil fuels?

 Environment Cleanup
Check this out: Part of practicing what you preach or what you think must include divesting your investments from things you supposedly do not believe in. Even if that means you sacrifice some earnings.  www.asyousow.org provides some valuable information.  Their site says: “As institutional investors such as university endowments begin divesting from coal and fossil fuel companies, there is a tremendous opportunity for carbon-free reinvesting to fund energy efficiency and clean technology and to speed the transition to a clean energy future.”

Help make sure Wall Street can’t sweep new Goldman Sachs reports under the rug.

Banks - Too Big to Jail
Sign the petition: A bombshell report last week outlines numerous occasions in which employees of the New York Federal Reserve, tasked with regulating Wall Street banks, instead watered down criticism and even sought to protect Goldman Sachs.1 Based on 46 hours of secret audio recordings made by a former bank examiner who was fired for being too critical of the bank, it offers some of the first hard evidence of what we’ve known all along: Too many regulators serve the banks, not the people they are tasked with protecting.
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown are calling for immediate oversight hearings as soon as Congress returns to work after the elections.2 We need to echo their call right now to make sure Wall Street can’t sweep these reports under the rug.

Fracking for exporting?  Let’s see, who takes all the risks and who gets the profits?

 Fracking Chemicals
Sign the petition: Tell Obama no more!  The Obama administration is moving ahead with the approval of more than 20 additional export terminals. We have to let him know that this is not the direction we want to move in. Take action and tell President Obama to stop the approval of any more fracked gas export terminals.

DOD newest customers, local police.  What could go wrong?

 Militarizing Police
Sign the petition: Tell Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel: Local police departments don’t need military-style weapons. Suspend the 1033 program now.
American neighborhoods are not combat zones, and law enforcement officials shouldn’t be using the weaponry or tactics of armed combat to fight crime. But by providing local law enforcement officials with military-style equipment, the Department of Defense is fueling a dangerous trend that puts the civil liberties and livelihoods of Americans, especially African-Americans and Latinos, at risk.
