Republicans fight to keep tax breaks for companies moving jobs overseas

Read this: Daily KOS article pointing out that Senate Republicans once again showed their stellar values by filibustering a bill that would have cut corporate tax breaks for moving jobs overseas. That’s right, Republicans are fighting to keep giving companies money to move jobs out of the United States.

Check out the video: Wednesday (07-30-14) Jon Stewart introduced us to the concept of corporate inversion (in his typical humorous way).  The Daily KOS further explains this latest way American corporations are acting wholly un-American.  Further explains my post from Tuesday (07-29-14).

Don’t let utilities derail our clean energy future! AB 2145 must be defeated in its entirety.

Sign the petition: Community Choice energy programs empower local communities to take control of decision-making about the sources and cost of their electrical power. Not-for-profit, democratically controlled Community Choice energy programs enable local governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while creating green jobs and stimulating the local economy. These programs are dedicated to reducing consumer electricity demand, providing competitive electricity rates and maximizing the amount of renewable energy in their mix.  A few months ago, PG&E introduced AB 2145, a bill designed to destroy Community Choice energy programs in California.

Corporations, billionaires and others hide behind deceptive names on ballot measure ads. SB 52 (CA DISCLOSE Act) can help stop this.

Californians, sign the petition: The California DISCLOSE Act (SB 52) would turn the tide on unlimited secret money in politics by exposing those who try to buy elections with deceptive ads.

The tricky Corporate Art of Inversions – poof taxes are gone!

Read this: The trick of Inversions takes place when corporations purposely renounce their American citizenship (remember Romney, “Corporations are people”), usually by merging with a foreign corporation and reincorporating in a low- or no-tax country (also called a tax haven) in order to be treated as a foreign corporation and escape U.S. tax liabilities, but this is actually just a legal maneuver on paper.  Sure is good for the corporation!  What’s most sickening about all of these corporate defections is that U.S. corporations that have reincorporated in another country to take advantage of that country’s lower corporate taxes are still spending significantly on lobbying in the United States.

“Factoryless Goods” and how to deceptively deflate the U.S. manufacturing trade deficit.

Read this: Our friends the corporate citizens are pushing a new plan.  Under a broad data reclassification plan, much of the value of U.S. brand-name goods assembled by foreign workers and imported here for sale would no longer be counted as imported goods, but rather as manufacturing “services” imports.

Comcast’s takeover of Time Warner Cable is not good for consumers.

Sign the petition: Tell the FCC exactly what you think of Comcast’s proposed takeover of Time Warner Cable. Comcast’s army of lobbyists will be pushing out feel-good comments, so make sure your opinion about this lousy deal gets heard!  Every signature counters some of their lobbying efforts.

Say NO to replacing the San Onofre NUCLEAR generating station with DIRTY FOSSIL FUELS.

Sign the petition: One of California’s largest utilities – SDG&E – plans to replace a shuttered nuclear plant with a massive new dirty gas plant – all through an insider deal that doesn’t allow clean energy options to compete. https://secure.sierraclub.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&page=UserAction&id=14115&s_src=214GCOAW05
