Once again GOP suggests changes that target those with the least power and will gut the safety net.

Safety Net - for the Powerful

Read this: This article by Susan Greenbaum of Aljazera discusses the latest move by the GOP to go after the American safety net.  It should not be a surprise but it certainly falls within the definition of shameful.  “The latest tax reform proposal from Sens. Marco Rubio and Mike Lee is a full-blown version of supply-side economics, to the tune of $4 trillion in revenue loss over a decade that would have to be offset by spending cuts. The plan targets programs that benefit the poor the most: Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps). On all sides and in both chambers, the Republicans appear determined to inflict more painful austerity on those who can least withstand it.”  They use terms like local, block grants, efficiency, democracy, etc. to effectively confuse, neutralize resistance and end discussions. “The latest tax reform proposal from Sens. • transform Medicare into a voucher program
  • raise the age of eligibility
  • effectively privatize Social Security
